FILING PROTECTION ORDERS
A protection order, often referred to as a restraining order, is a legal order issued by the state court to protect a victim from abuse or harassment. Kansas offers two types of civil protection orders, including:
PROTECTION FROM ABUSE ORDERS
This provides protection from an intimate partner or household member. There are three types of protection from abuse orders that one can file:
Emergency protection from abuse order
Temporary protection from abuse order
Final protection from abuse order

This provides protection from a perpetrator regardless of your relationship with that person. This order can protect you from someone who has sexually assaulted you, stalked you, or trafficked you, notwithstanding the type of relationship between you and the person.

A protection order can do the following:
Order the abuser to stop any violent act or threat of violence towards the victim.
Order the abuser to stay away from the victim’s home, school, workplace, or business.
Order the abuser to refrain from contacting, threatening, or intimidating the victim or any member of their household.
